MIAMI....HERE I COME

I'm so looking forward to my weekend getaway to the beaches of MIAMI next weekend.  This trip is for me to relax, read a good book, write, blog, sleep and DRANK Mojitos on the sand !!!  I 'm packing a cocktail dress just in case I feel the urge to step out somewhere classy before I leave.  Lately, I have been so exhausted and overwhelmed with work, my foundation and kids.  That momma just need a break.....simple.  I went to MIAMI in June 2010 for the first time and instantly fell in love with the beautiful city.  I can't wait to return to the hot weather (Windy City Chicago can keep this cold mess).

I'll share a few pics to let the you see some of the beautiful city.  Confession:  When I was there in 2010, I met a pimp who took me on a wonderful tour of the city.  Yep, shocked me too that he was a pimp and NO he did not offer me a job....LOL.

This picture above shows us driving across a bridge heading to our hotel.  I enjoyed the peaceful scenery that MIAMI has to offer tourist like me.

On Collins Drive this is the kind of rides that paraded through the shore lines of the beach and restaurants.  We saw several unique and custom made rides of all makes and models that weekend.

FINALLY, I never wore a two piece bikini swim suit in all of my adult years.  I always thought I was too skinny and people would laugh at me.  Welp, after having three kids ..... I finally dug up the courage to let it all out....lol well most of it.

Anybody that knows me living in a pink world knows, I love writing, reading, blogging, and mix in a glass of Chardonnay in that list and I am satisfied in life.  So next weekend, I'll have plenty of new pictures to post and be in the midst of peace, quiet and relaxation in MIAMI!!!!!!!

DEAR SANTA,

So I was reading this article in a magazine and laughed at the topic of choice. Basically, the guy was writing a letter to Santa Claus describing the characteristics he wanted in a mate.  Is it that easy?  I recalled how I had this "list" of potentials I wanted in a mate, in my journal.  Oh my mate had to have this, this, this and that.  The day I ripped that list up by putting a big "X" through it (didn't want to tear the page out of my journal), was the day love walked into my life.

I'm not saying you should not have standards and wants in a potential mate.  What I am suggesting to you is that, if you have a list longer than the time you would even date this individual, then something is terribly wrong here.  Be realistic with your list too if you choose to create one.  I've heard of vision boards for professional motivation but plotting, planning and writing Santa Claus a list of things you want in your mate is just................CRAZY!!!!!

Stop chasing love in all of the wrong places.  Continue to live your life and love those around you and see that love will show up and show up at the right time.  I've had love and lost love plenty of times to know that, it's not going anywhere and that I don't need to stalk it either.

Just my thoughts, after all, I live in a pink world remember :-)

ALMOND SPARKLING WINE

So I was at a wine tasting a few months back at Cooper's Hawk on one of my days off.  This is somewhat of a ritual for me on my off days..... you can't beat $7 for a wine tasting.  The hostess was a delight too and very friendly.  After the tasting was complete, she talked about several other wines I should taste and began to give me samples of those as well.  Low and behold, she pulled out this Almond flavored wine that instantly blew me away.  I have been hooked ever since!  Trust me grab you a bottle of this wine today and especially for the holidays cause I will have it on deck for me and my family to enjoy on Christmas evening....... :-)

Also, if you haven't become a Wine Club Member as well and enjoy the perks HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

eBooks vs Paperbacks

I personally love to turn the pages in a paperback book and actually go to a local bookstore and purchase a book.  That's an experience in itself.  I enjoyed taking my kids to Borders and hanging out with them in the children and youth sections, sipping tea or coffee and watching my youngest son opening and closing books with Elmo on the cover.  Sadly those days have been bought out by Sony eReaders, Kindle, iPad, iPod, cell phone eBook apps, Kobo and all of the other fancy devices to read a book on.  I just wonder if this technology is taking away our social perks.  No more first dates at the local bookstores now we rely on Starbucks with FREE Wi-Fi.  We can download everything now a days.  I am an electronic device junky, I can admit that.  I am always surrounded by my cell phone, iPod Touch and eReader.  Recently, you can add an iPad 2 to that list.  All of these devices around me means a lot of chargers to go with me everywhere I go, which my purse and or bag that I carry heavier.  So my question is, is eReading really better or convenient than a paperback book?

I'm trying to get into all of these gadgets as far as reading.  But I guess at heart, I'm just old school and like to turn the crisp pages in a book.  Funny the other day, I downloaded an ibook (same as an eBook) on my iPad and I could place my finger on the screen and literally turn the page.  Wasn't an awe-ha moment for you?  It sure was for me.  I thought to myself that I may actually be evolving into the modern technology world, after all. No sooner did I find myself rushing through the pages to do what, scroll my finger across the screen to "turn the page".  I can't tell you nothing that I read in those pages because of the cute animation I received turning the pages.  So this still makes me wonder which is better eBooks  or paperbacks?  You be the judge!!!!

Save Me From Myself

Save me from myself
I'm drowning in my own thoughts
Somehow fear is keeping me at peace
with PINK butterflies filling my existence
I'm used to doing things my way
not realizing that I was doing it all wrong
The moment I let go
you came into my world
Raising the bar
your hands cover my heart
Save me from myself
sometimes I am my worst enemy
Never satisfied with the outcomes
perfection moistens my lips and tickles my soul
No one knows what lies beneath my surface
You see beauty
I see doubting or waiting on the worst to happen
Time proves me wrong again
Prayers to survive in this world
Become empty conversations with my Maker
Vows to be broken at the glimpse of the adversary
I'm drowning in my sins
Save me from myself
Who am I to the enemy?
I sleep on his canvas and he paints whatever picture he desires
Who am I to my Maker?
I was predestined for greatness
before He blew his breath into the Earth
He has calculated my steps
He Knows that I'm not perfect
So why is it so hard to claim my victory
Before death there's life
In my mind, the latter is not promised but death is
So I roam the fields of life and will tip toe
To the Promise Land and constantly pray that my Maker
See fit to save me from myself

NEW ALBUMS ARE ON DECK!!!

The last few months have been musically amazing.  Artist we haven't heard from are back ladies and gents:

Syleena Johnson ................ Chapter V: Underrated

Tyrese................................. Open Invitation

Wale................................... Ambition

Mary J. Blige........................ My Life II

Rihanna ................................. Talk That Talk

I look forward to Monica's "New Life" album as well (I heard the release date got pushed back).  Drake's album "Take Care" is one that I haven't rushed out to buy or listen to because the radio plays his songs all of the time and makes me believe that there isn't too much left on the album.  I'm also starting to feel that way about Beyonce's "4" album is this another album with all videos to dress up her songs too?  Whatever the case is, NEW ALBUMS ARE ON DECK!!!

I'm not a music critic and won't even dabble in that arena, I just listen to what I listen to and throw out what I don't like.  Now two more artist that I am awaiting their albums are TRINA & KEYSHIA COLE (Calling All Hearts needed something else to satisfy us, her fans.  I think a lot of people just couldn't deal with Keyshia's new found happiness in her songs).

What are you reviews on these albums and other new releases?

Birthday Sex vs Birthday Cake

BIRTHDAY SEX

A couple of years ago we heard the high-pitched vocals of R&B rookie Jeremih, song Birthday Sex.  This song lyrics and tunes exploded in our radios and heavy rotations on 106 and Park.  We loved to sing the extended echos in the song's chorus such as, "Girl you know I-I-I-I want to r-i-i-i-d-d-e-e-e out ......birthday sex".  He talked about skipping the birthday cake and candles, and getting it in.  I call this male version (of course the song was written by a male - I assume - nevertheless song by a male).  This kind of reminds me of the male species in general and how to the point they are and us women or some of us are very more indepth or in tune with our bodies and viewpoints of the world.  Not men, they want to know and get to the bottom line QUICK!  Fellas don't blow up my phone or social media accounts mad because I'm telling some of y'all secrets ..... LOL....I LIVE IN A PINK WORLD REMEMBER.!.!.!.!  In the video, Jeremih had the camcorder set up, displays of gushing fruits and e'rthang.  How about you take a look:

VS
BIRTHDAY CAKE

Fast forward to November 2011......Lawdy have mercy Rihanna just done went from a good girl gone bad literally (and I'm not mad at her), with this song on her new album, Talk that Talk.  Go get the album if you haven't.  Now this track is unlike others, it's under a minute and a half long, but definitely gets the point across in a fun way.  This is the female version and perspective of sexual pleasures.  I can imagine the frowns from some people that hear these lyrics of hers.  I see the same concept in the songs: they want to have sex....POINT BLANK.  Ok, now let's listen to Ri-Ri's song:

My questions to you:  Who song delivered the message better and why do you feel that way?

BUG-A-BOO

STOP IT ...... JUST STOP IT!!!  If someone does NOT show you genuine interest, let them go chile and move on.  Stop, I repeat, STOP being a bug-a-boo in some one's life.  I remember the Destiny's Child song with this same title and they hit it on the nail people blowing up your phone (we had pagers back then LOL), calling your friends and families houses whenever you don't answer their calls, calling your job or currently, the absolute NO NO, sending you a trillion pokes and inbox messages on your Facebook page.  If you or anyone you know is guilty of the above examples, you or them are a bug-a-boo.

How does one get to this point of being a bug-a-boo?....I think it happens gradually and in modern terms today it's called S-T-A-L-K-I-N-G.  If you think a person is gonna seriously be interested in you, due to you calling them 99 times a day, sadly you are on the wrong track in the dating world.  I don't know how many times I see this play out in men and women.  Remember, I live in a pink world so all sides are created equal until proven guilty...LOL but seriously, the guy complains about the chic blowing up his cell and vice verse.  People, please also know your roles from being the main piece, dip, boo, wifey, mistress, baby momma/daddy, etc and stop trying to be more than what's being offered on the table.  I recognize men and women are from Mars and Venus (not my words but y'all know the author of that book) so we think and act differently, sometimes!!!!  If a person doesn't answer your call, text, Tweet or Facebook chat by your third attempt, hang it up and move on.

Oh and my favorite, NEWS FLASH: Unless it's business related, NO ONE LISTENS TO THEIR VOICEMAILS ANYMORE!! So filling up a person's voicemail system is NOT gonna get you far either and this again labels you a bug-a-boo.  Someone please call an ex of mine and tell him this information ASAP.

I'm gonna leave you with the Destiny's Child video so you can jam to it the next time your bug-a-boo calls you...enjoy :-)

Those Damn, Bucket Boys Are EVERYWHERE

*picture downloaded from an online site*

Somewhere, somebody must have given the young guys in our neighborhoods, a sale on drumsticks and mop buckets.  Why have our Chicagoland streets become infested with these young and obviously talented black teens?  They are on these corners all day long banging on those damn buckets.  Why aren't they in school?  What can society do to at least place them in a performing arts school or something?  My loose change I keep in my cup holder in my car is for the Venti Pike Place Roast coffee I order at Starbucks on a broke day, and not for those guys coming up to my car begging for my change.  I feel two different ways about what they are doing: (1) I CAN'T STAND IT and (2) welp, it's keeping them out of gangs and committing crimes that will put them in our judicial system forever.

Yes, I'm okay with seeing them every now and then but not at almost every light I come too.  Why aren't they ever at the places that you need entertainment while stuck in traffic, like at train tracks?  They are housed at a 20 second stop light, perform for two seconds and expect you to give them a HUGE tip for throwing a stick in the air and catching it......SMDH!!!!  I'm no politician but SOMETHING needs to be done about this ASAP.

87th and the Dan Ryan is the WORST place to be.  It's about 10-15 of the bucket boys out there at one time.  My question is, where is this money going?  Their little asses need to pay taxes on that money too and be required to have a license to stand out there all day.  I'm just saying!!!!

People this is what the streets of Chicago have come to (see video below)........ HELP!!!!!

VIDEO VIXEN to ENTREPRENEUR

Keyshia Dior is about to be the young adults newest role model.  Is this a good or bad thing? ..... The verdict is still out on this one.  So let's cut to the chase and get to it.  This always gum chewing doll was featured in Timberland's video "Say Something" featuring the infamous Drizzy Drake (see video below).  Now this is where it gets tricky, she was smart enough to INVEST her earnings from that video and others to start her own lipstick line Ka'oir Cosmetics http://kaoir.com/ .  This is where I get a little excited, my alter ego, the fabulous, beautiful and the MIAMI diamond princess ....TRINA..... has a lipstick named after her and designed for her and her fans, called NEON ROCKSTARR.  Wonderful simply wonderful!!!!

I can't help but draw my attention back to the title of this blog, Video Vixen to Entrepreneur.  I'm almost fearful that our young ladies will not get a full picture of success because they see that beauty will carry them into celebrity status.  Now by no means am I hating on this sister.  I'm sure there's a lot of work to be done, being in her position and I don't know her full background but I do know that unless we are encouraging our black sisters to finish school and then become entrepreneurs, we are headed to a future of the "microwave generation" and no longevity is in store for us.  These youngens want things quick and easy.

What happens when beauty fails and the Next Top Model enters the scene and you are no longer the "It girl"? Rewind to the beautiful Maia Campbell, she was featured in videos, TV sitcoms and something was still lacking in her life that she began using drugs (YouTube).   No way in hell do I hope these things for Keyshia Dior.  What I hope that Keyshia Dior is doing is using this lime light of her celebrity status and making a difference in the lives of young women and women as a whole.

Below is the video that Keyshia Dior was featured in with Timberland and Drake:
